Adults with Disabilities

PERSONAL OPTIONS DAY SERVICES (PODS) Program provides specialized vocational services for individuals with employment barriers.  Participants with disabilities and their interdisciplinary team develop an individualized plan for employment, recreation and education for a full day or week of activity.  PODS is offered in partnership with MRCI WorkSource, Inc.  The following services are available through PODS:

  • Employment Planning Services
This service involves a series of job trials in real community jobs at businesses in the community.  These job trials offer the individual an opportunity to try a variety of jobs of interest, usually for a week per site.  The primary outcome of Employment Planning is the development of a vocational plan that identifies a specific employment goal and recommended employment opportunities in the community.

  • Employment Placement
Services are available to assist individuals in the process of seeking and obtaining jobs in their communities.  Like all PODS services, job placement is individually tailored to maximize the independence of the job seeker and to address specific needs.

  • Extended Employment
Each individual works with a case manager or job coach to implement an individual plan to address the specific skill areas or behaviors that are barriers to employment success.  In most situations, these individualized services are provided in "paid" community jobs.

  • Manufacturing Job Shop
For individuals who choose not to work in the community, or those who are in transition to a community job, there is an option of center-based work at an MRCI WorkSource-owned facility.  Sub-contracted work is provided in a factory environment usually in the form of packaging or light assembly.  A variety of jobs are usually available and workers are matched by their interest and ability.

  • Living Skills
This program is designed to provide adults with disabilities opportunities to become participating members in their communities.  Appropriate behavior and awareness of self and others is emphasized.  Learning situations allow members to function as fully as possible as responsible citizens, making decisions concerning themselves, and respecting others.  These opportunities enable members to identify and use community resources by becoming involved with project-based learning and real situations in the community.
